For the win: NJ companies kick off 2024 with new sports partnerships

Figure skating

Therapeutic skin care brand AmLactin announced a one-year partnership with Team USA figure skater Amber Glenn.

As part of the collaboration, Glenn will discuss her experience with keratosis pilaris – a skin condition that causes dry, rough patches – through a series of social media posts that will run through, as well as showcase how, AmLactin keeps her skin soft and smooth all year round.

Owned by Novartis spinoff, Princeton-based Sandoz Inc., the dermatologist-recommended line of body lotions and creams contain clinically proven concentrations of lactic acid to gently exfoliate and deeply hydrate skin.

The #IAmLactinReady campaign also includes a three-month nationwide initiative of 80-plus influencers, consisting of other figure skaters, snowboarders, outdoor enthusiasts and everyday people who will be asked to try AmLactin during the dry winter skin season and share their personal journeys. In addition, an educational series of posts with leading dermatologists will educate consumers about the best way to manage even the toughest skin conditions — from keratosis pilaris to dry, itchy, flaky skin and to rough under-exfoliated skin.

AmLactin’s head of marketing, Heather Choe, commented, “We are excited about this unique opportunity to partner with Amber Glenn for the #IAmLactinReady campaign.”

“KP, commonly referred to as ‘chicken skin’ or ‘strawberry skin,’ is a prevalent skin condition that affects approximately 40% of adults and over half of teenagers. We believe Amber is the perfect spokesperson to authentically educate and bring awareness about KP and dry skin through her own personal skincare journey,” Choe said.

Announcing Avanza Skin as the official skincare partner for the team, the organizations said they hope it underscores the importance of prioritizing skin health in the world of professional cycling, where riders face various challenges, such as sun exposure, friction-related issues and the need for effective recovery solutions.

Sponsored by pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk, whose U.S. headquarters is in Plainsboro, the 12-year-old team competes at the highest level of professional cycling with a goal to inspire, educate and empower people affected by diabetes.

Commenting on the tie-up with Avanza, Phil Southerland, the founder and CEO of Team Novo Nordisk, said he believes it “signifies our commitment to providing our athletes with the best possible resources to perform at their peak while prioritizing their skin health.”

“As a team racing with diabetes, our athletes understand the importance of holistic well-being, and skincare is a vital aspect of that,” he said.

To mark the upcoming launch of SheaMoisture’s first deodorant range tailored for rich melanin skin, the Englewood Cliffs-based, Unilever-owned beauty and personal care brand is collaborating with the Fisk University Gymnastics Team.

The team – which made history last year as the first historically black college and university (HBCU) gymnastics team to compete at the NCAA level – will be featured in a campaign introducing the deodorant. SheaMoisture will also provide the team with a $25,000 grant in support of the 2024 season, as well as career resources and special products to the gymnasts.

In addition to the Fisk University Gymnastics Team, SheaMoisture partnered with musician MC Lyte to voice the campaign in national ads and radio spots and musician-actress Coco Jones for cameo appearances.
