Rapid City’s parks and recreational facilities provide plenty of opportunities to have fun and be active, which is why the city is making it a priority to maintain them.
Tuesday, the city’s public works committee voted in favor to allow the mayor and finance director to sign an agreement with RDG Planning and Design for the city’s Parks and Recreation master plan. The plan consists of identifying the public’s wants and needs from the city’s parks and recreation systems.
“We hear a lot that we want more pickle ball courts, we want more field space for youth sports, and it’s just a matter of deciding where these amenities can go, if we can afford to, one, build them and, two, maintain them,” a landscape architect with the City of Rapid City, Melissa Petersen, said.
RDG Planning and Design would analyze the city’s parks' current conditions, age, maintenance, and accessibility.
