Pickleball courts are coming soon to Garrett Coliseum. According to Christina Thornton, Garrett Coliseum’s Director Promotions, officials want to have it open and available by this fall. “We’ve gotten a lot of feedback on things people want to see coming to the coliseum, and we just confirmed that indoor pickleball will be coming to the Garrett Coliseum,” she said.
Garrett Coliseum officials are working closely with Legacy Pickleball to make this a reality. Thornton said more details to come. She said that when major events like concerts and fairs come to the coliseum, they plan to move the courts to the Ed Teague Arena. “Right now, we know that we’re going to have day play and tournament play all indoors. We are currently working out the logistics to determine if this will be day-play only or membership-based,” she said.
Built in the 1950′s, Garrett Coliseum is a staple in downtown Montgomery. Christi Thornton wants to keep the legacy alive. “We’ve found contracts from Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, and some from civil rights icons,” Thornton said, “This is a historical facility, and we want to keep people coming out.”
