A park in the Electric City has doubled in size. On Monday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the opening of new amenities at Billy Barrett Park in the Minooka Section of Scranton. A tennis court and pickleball court have officially been added to the park. The total cost of the project was more than $190,000 and the funding came from grants and partly from the American Rescue Plan. The mayor says these courts are in high demand.
“We have a park study that is from 2021 and it shows that people really do want Pickleball. We have court planned all throughout and we will do more cuttings in the next few months, but here at Billy Barrett in Minooka, in South Scranton, we’re opening the first one. So we’re really excited you could see it looks beautiful and it will be right for the neighborhood. It will make a great destination for lots of folks to come down and play pickleball,” Mayor Paige Cognetti explained.
Ten pickleball courts at Nay Aug Park and one at Robinson Park on East Mountain are planned to be built in the coming years.
