Even though to many people it seems as if pickleball just magically appeared during the pandemic, the sport was founded in 1965. However, the sport has gained massive amounts of popularity in recent years.
Between 2019 and 2021, participation in pickleball grew by 39.3%. It was named the fastest growing sport in 2021 and 2022 by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association, with 13.6 million players in America.
The sport has attracted players because of its accessibility and competitive nature.
Pickleball is a relatively cheap and simple sport that allows people from all walks of life to enjoy it. Injured athletes or aging players find the sport enjoyable, because it isn’t as strenuous as other sports and still maintains the competitive edge other sports offer.
The construction of the project will be conducted by Goddard Sports Surfaces. The estimated cost of the project is $42,750, with construction expected to begin in early spring of 2025.
The Bad Axe City Council discussed a possible restoration of the basketball courts; however, it has decided to continue discussion on this potential project at a later date.
