Owensboro Parks and Recreation hosted a meeting to discuss the idea of a pickleball complex, which officials say could possibly come to Ben Hawes Park. The parks department updated community members on the plans' current status and allowed them to voice their opinions on the project. They say community input is crucial for a project like this.
“No matter how great I think the idea is, if I build it and no one uses it, it wasn’t a great idea,” explains Amanda Rogers, Director of Parks and Rec. “So I need that citizen input to make sure I’m giving the citizens what they want and what they need and what they will use, not just now but in the future.”
Officials are trying to finalize the plans for the pickleball complex and put it out for bid in late October to early November.
