New Pickleball Facility Proposed For Howard Memorial Sports Park

A new pickleball facility could be coming to Medford.

According to a news release from the Southern Oregon Pickleball Association, the proposed facility would have 19 courts and host local, regional, and national tournaments. There are several organizations behind the project, including the Wes Howard Memorial Sports Park Foundation, the City of Medford, the Southern Oregon Pickleball Association, and the Southern Oregon Pickleball Association Foundation.

"We’re excited to be part of an enthusiastic group of partners in addressing a major community recreation facility need,” said Rich Rosenthal, the Wes Howard Memorial Sports Park Foundation board president and the City of Medford’s parks and recreation director, said in the release.  “This facility will honor Wes Howard’s legacy of having his property used for the betterment of Medford families, and in a way that fosters inclusivity, fun, and competition for pickleballers of all ages and skill levels.”

The organizations have contributed about $800,000 towards the facility, the release said, but will need an additional $800,000 to start construction. They will be launching a fundraiser towards the project soon.
