The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Northwest Kentucky is hosting its first Pickleball Tournament on Aug. 10 at Owensboro Country Club.
Registration for the event closes on Friday, and organizers said there’s been a lot of interest and sign-ups heading toward that deadline.
“We’re pushing 100 right now. It’s going to be a competitive tournament,” said Laura McCain, one of the organizers of the event along with Drew Cunningham. Both are on the FCA Northwest Kentucky board of directors. FCA NWK covers a nine county area.
Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine is a presenting sponsor, and there will be giveaways from Onix Pickleball and Academy Sports. Food trucks will also be on site.
The tournament will be divided into categories based on players’ skill level and gender. There are three levels of competition for men and women, beginners, intermediate and advanced. This is not a mixed doubles tournament. Singles players can register and be put with a partner. Registration is open to anyone in the 9-county service area for FCA Northwest Kentucky.
The pickleball tournament is a fund raiser for FCA.
“Our mission is to reach coaches and athletes for Jesus Christ,” McCain said. “Sponsoring a sports tournament is a natural thing for us to do. It’s a good way to connect with a lot of people. It’s an opportunity to come together and raise money for a deserving organization.”
