Work on upgrading parts of Casper’s Washington Park will continue after the Casper City Council’s approval of a $397,000 contract and a $1,090 change order.
The contract, totaling $397,688, covers the design and construction of a post-tension slab and surfacing to convert the park’s southern tennis courts into pickleball courts. Denver-based LER Inc., doing business as Renner Sports Services, will complete the work, according to city documents.
LER was the only company to submit a bid, city documents state. Funding will come from the Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant, with matching money provided by the One Cent Funds associated with parks.
Pickleball combines elements of tennis, table tennis and badminton. Much smaller than a tennis court, a pickleball court is 20 feet by 44 feet for singles and doubles play.
The sport’s popularity has been climbing in recent years. Local efforts to create enough play space include the conversion of Highland Park tennis courts and the opening of the Casper Pickleball and Sports Complex at 1911 Dunlap St.
Restroom Upgrades Change Order
On Tuesday, the council also approved a $1,090 deduction change order with Crown Construction LLC for labor and materials to wire the electrical flush valves and piping and drain down valves for weatherization. The order, which extends the time for work completion by 39 days, also eliminated completing handicap signs, asphalt and paint striping from the scope of work. That work will be completed by City Parks and Streets staff, city documents state.
This is the third change order for the project. The first added $3,900 from contingency funds while the second added $935. That also came from contingency funds. The project is funded with a 50–50 split of the Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant and city money.
