Indoor pickleball is coming to this Brevard city. Where and when will it open? We'll tell you.
Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. Playing in the Florida heat isn’t ideal, though. Looks like Brevard residents won’t need to worry about that pretty soon. Some local developers are opening an indoor pickleball facility. Pickle Beach is scheduled to open later this year in Satellite Beach. Satellite Beach officials gave the go-ahead on the project in June. Not too many details are known just yet, but we’ll share what we do know so far. It seems a second indoor pickleball facility also will be built somewhere in Brevard. More on that later.
Where will the indoor pickleball facility be in Brevard County? The address is 1071 South Patrick Drive. It is located next to a post office and the David R. Schechter Community Center.
What will be included in the indoor pickleball facility? The building is 22,000-square-feet. It will include nine pickleball courts. Pickleball courts are 20 feet by 44 feet, with a net that is 36 inches tall. The space also includes an open recreational area as well as a waiting area and some seating. There are restrooms, but no shower facilities. Proposed hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Timeline for the indoor pickleball facility: Construction is expected to begin in the next few weeks with an expected opening date of winter 2024, according to the Pickle Beach Facebook page. Postings on social media also state membership info will be available in the next couple months. Although, it was made clear that the facility will be open to the public, and it is not a club.
Where will the second indoor pickleball facility be built in Brevard? That remains to be seen. Just this week, it was announced Pickleball Kingdom, the world's largest indoor pickleball entity, will build a location in Brevard County. A specific location wasn't announced. The news was part of an announcement that Pickleball Kingdom is building 15 new locations across Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Brevard, St. Lucie, Indian River and Martin counties.
Clubs will include:

What is pickleball, anyway? The sport that’s described as a combination of ping-pong, tennis and badminton. It was invented in 1965 by three dads looking for a fun, family activity, according to USA Pickleball. Originally it was played with a wiffle ball, but these days it’s played with it's own perforated, plastic ball.
