What happened: Council approved adding a lighting system to the Adamstown Community Park courts using funding from the borough’s pickleball court grant.
By the numbers: Adamstown received a state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant that covers 80% of the pickleball court project with a 20% match from the borough. The project cost is $595,700 with the grant covering $476,560 and the borough paying $119,140. The exact cost of the lighting has yet to be determined.
Details: The project will now include a new player-activated lighting system for residents at the pickleball, tennis and basketball courts. The lighting will also help alleviate problems with vandalism on the trail at the park, deLyn Alumbaugh, council member, said.
Quotable: “I was approached by several of our residents, who said, ‘We would love to come home from work and be able to use the courts, but so often (Adamstown) doesn’t have the facilities up and running,’” said Alumbaugh, discussing the impetus for the additions.
More: With the addition of lights, workers will install a new electric system. This would help if the borough decides to install two crosswalks and lighting between the Rose Hill and Misty Meadows developments, Alumbaugh said.
